FESTIVAL
BENEFICIARIES
 |
Where does the money go?
Over the past 19 years, the Festival has raised money for local
health care initiatives; focusing on acute, long-term and
palliative care. Past projects funded with
Festival proceeds include:
Hospice Peterborough – Hospice Peterborough works to enhance
the comfort, dignity and quality of life of individuals and
families living with or affected by serious illness or grief.
Proceeds from past Festivals have helped Hospice provide group
programming at no charge including their Day at Hospice and
support groups for men, women and caregivers; as well as
training for respite and practical support volunteer visitors.
Proceeds from this year’s Festival will continue to help fund
ongoing programming at Hospice, including groups that
specifically support children and families living with serious
illness and grief.
Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation – The PRHC
Foundation’s mission is to inspire support throughout our
region to provide the professionals at PRHC with the tools they
need to ease pain, restore health and save lives. Proceeds from
past Festivals were used to purchase medical equipment and
technology for the community’s new state-of-the-art hospital
through the By Your Side campaign. In 2008, the Festival
supported the planned completion of the hospital’s interior
courtyards, helping to create a healing environment that will
have a direct impact on patient care. Proceeds from the 2009
Festival will support the purchase of a new Retinal Image
Camera, used to take digital/retinal photographs of premature
infants’ eyes in order to assess the risk of blindness.
Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation – The Greater
Peterborough Health Services Foundation, formerly St. Joseph’s
Care Foundation (SJCF), is working in partnership with Primary
Health Care Services of Peterborough and the Family Health Teams
to fund capital equipment, research, and education health care
initiatives in the greater Peterborough area. From 2000-2006,
Festival proceeds went towards its commitment to the St. Joseph’s
at Fleming capital campaign. In 2008, the Festival helped the
SJCF provide a variety of grants designed to promote life-long
healthy aging and enhance quality of life in our community.
Recipients included the Down Syndrome Association to provide a
specialist to assist with medical needs; and Community Care to
provide personal distress alarms.
Who organizes the Festival?
Over 1,300 volunteers from the community, some working all year
long, make the Festival a spectacular event each year. The
Peterborough Memorial Centre is magically transformed into a
beautiful winter wonderland decked with holiday lighting,
gingerbread creations, and tree after glorious tree. As a way of
showing company holiday spirit, our many business and corporate
sponsors invite their staff to be Festival volunteers. Proceeds
collected through nominal admission charges at the door, the
sale of trees, wreaths and gift items, special events, shopping
venues throughout Festival, together with sponsorship by local
and area businesses and individuals, benefit health care in the
region.
